What is the Average Amount of Calories in Nutrisystem Meals? I'll Tell You

The other day, I received an email from a potential dieter who wanted to know how many calories the nutrisystem meals contained. She was a little confused because she had read that you should consume five nutrisystem meals per day. She did not see how you could eat five servings of pizza, burgers, and tacos (as the commercials claimed you could) and still lose the kind of weight that folks were claiming that they were losing. The answer to this lies in the calorie, carb, and protein content of the foods. I will discuss this in more detail in the following article.

A Look At The Calorie Content In Some Very Popular Nutrisystem Meals: So, to make this more clear, I'm going to take a closer look at some of the more popular breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, and dessert options. Please know that I've randomly chosen what I think are a good example of the category, but by no means is this an exhaustive list. These are just examples of well over 120 possible meals.

Breakfast: The blueberry pancakes contain only 154 calories and 7 grams of sugars. The egg frittata has 120 calories and an impressive twelve grams of protein. The very tasty sweetened O's cereal has only 110 calories and 5 grams of protein. In general, they try to keep the calorie content well under 150, so that by the time you add in some fresh fruit or yogurt, you are still under 200.

Lunch: The pasta and beef contains only 180 calories with only 40 of those coming from fat. The red beans and rice with sausage comes in exactly the same - at 180. The protein on this one is an impressive 8 grams. Finally, the cheese tortellini only has 10 grams of sugars and 170 calories. There are very few options here that are over 200.

Dinner: They're a little more generous here as this is your main meal. For example, the flat bread pizza has 210 calories but only 3 grams of sugars. The burger only has a surprising 90 (but keep in mind you'll still need to add condiments and a bun.) The meatloaf is probably on the higher end at about 300. Most of these options stay well under 300 total calories.

Desserts And Snacks: The company does a really nice job with these. Most diets would not dream of letting you have chocolate bars and strawberry shortcake. Yet, not only can you have these things, you won't be doing yourself any harm with them. For example, the pound cake is only 160 calories, the chocolate fudge is only 170, and the pretzels only come in at 140.

Why Calories Are Not The Only Thing That Matters On Nutrisystem: Hopefully, I've shown you some pretty impressive examples, but also very important is the fact that the company also keeps the protein content very high and the carb and sugar content really low. This is done on purpose and by design because it ensures that your body is able to easily burn fat instead of carbs.

In general though, they really do strive to keep your daily total calorie intake at around 1200 - 1300 calories per day, which is the optimal amount in which to get everything that you need and still lose weight. But, this doesn't tell the entire tale. There are also a pretty high amount of proteins and the carbs are purposely limited. You don't taste the difference and you are still able to eat comfort foods but this comes into play because you are able to get into fat burning mode more easily and rapidly as there are no excess carbs to burn through.
