Acid Reflux Diet And Breakfast

Acid reflux diet and breakfast is a dilemma for a number of reasons. With the frequency that people have reflux problems through the night while they are sleeping, chances are they are waking up with heartburn. And in that case, they are more likely to go eat antacids for breakfast, than they are food that is going to make them feel worse.

However, breakfast is also the most important meal of the day. Breakfast helps stabilize your blood sugar levels after sleeping, and provides energy to start the day. It has also been shown that people who skip breakfast will eat more throughout the day. And what is one of the biggest problems for acid reflux and heartburn - eating fewer and larger meals, as that is shown to cause and/or make your problems worse. Deleting breakfast from your acid reflux diet is not a heartburn remedy.

Acid Reflux And Life Style

Preventing acid reflux and heartburn is going to entail making lifestyle changes. You eat breakfast, and then what happens? That overnight heartburn that you may have already had, coupled with the food that you just ate for breakfast [you just couldn't resist 'wolfing' down that Egg McMuffin while you were driving] get together and give you more reflux and worse heartburn. Start your day with more energy, not hardly; you are starting your day in pain, and just want to go turn around and go home. But instead, there goes another round of antacids to try to keep you going.

How is that for breakfast and an acid reflux diet - acid reflux trigger foods 'washed' down with antacids to get rid of the heartburn pain. Lunch and dinner tend to be easier meals for heartburn sufferers. You have a wider range of food choices that are more appealing later in the day than they are for breakfast. And you also aren't in such a rush, giving you more time to prepare a good meal - and not having to eat it so fast, which of course is one of the heartburn don'ts.

Yes, acid reflux diet and breakfast is quite a problem, because so many of the breakfast food choices cause heartburn. Your fried eggs, with toast and butter, and orange juice and coffee - or that rush through the fast food restaurant, are of the worst foods that can be eaten. These can be expected to cause heartburn, certainly negating the benefits that eating breakfast are supposed to give you.

Breakfast Food Choices For Acid Reflux

So what are you going to do - you need to eat breakfast, but you aren't going to do so if it is only going to make you feel worse. To begin with, how about getting up 15 minutes earlier so you aren't in such a rush and fast food becomes your only breakfast alternative. And then, how about if you quit brain washing yourself into thinking that you need caffeine to get going? I remember my old routine, get up and skip breakfast except for 2-3 cups of coffee, have a diet coke at my desk, and then eat Tums throughout the morning - I have chipped teeth from Tums.

There are many acid reflux diet food choices for breakfast that don't take much time to prepare, and that can actually help to reduce reflux and heartburn instead of causing it. And you can adapt to some changes in food choices that will help you even more - you really don't need to eat that last piece of cold pizza for breakfast to keep it from going to waste J

Good food choices will include whole-grains, fruits and vegetables, and protein - just like any well balance healthy meal. In fact, that is one of the major benefits of an acid reflux diet, besides helping prevent or getting rid of heartburn, it is also a diet that promotes good health.

Whole grain breakfast food choices can be found in oatmeal, whole grain cereals, or whole grain breads. These are important for your acid reflux diet. They have fiber which makes them easier to digest, they don't require as much acid during digestion, and actually they break down during digestion in a way that can absorb excess acid. Additionally, whole grains include the antioxidant selenium, which has been shown to help protect the cell lining in the esophagus.

Fruits and vegetables are great for breakfast - what could be better than starting the day with an apple, or eating some fruit on your whole grain cereal. Just remember to stay away from the citrus fruits or juices, and especially no tomato juice as it is very highly acidic. Drink natural apple or grape juice as something that helps reduce acid. And if you can eat pizza and drink coke for breakfast, then you sure could get used to eating some broccoli - or how about some steamed broccoli with some egg whites.

Protein is an important food choice. It makes you feel more full and thus can help prevent overeating. And protein is the food source that helps build and repair muscles - this could include strengthening the muscles associated with your esophagus. As in all acid reflux diets, make sure that your proteins are low in fat content, because fat takes longer to digest and needs more acid to do so, thus increasing the likelihood of reflux heart burn. This means skim milk instead of whole milk, egg whites instead of the whole egg - and no more of that bacon or the fatty meats and fried foods in those breakfast sandwiches.

Breakfast And Lifestyle Changes

My lifestyle has changed the last few years; I was gaining weight as I was getting older, and I had heartburn that became acid reflux disease. Besides making some very big acid reflux diet changes, it now includes going to the gym in the morning before starting work. So, breakfast is very important to me after working out, but I also lose some extra time that I could have had for eating.

I eat a banana on the way to the gym, which helps settle my stomach. And then for breakfast I want a lot of protein, and to be sure that I have a relatively high protein to carbohydrate ratio; I want energy and not a spike in my blood sugar level. I usually drink a vanilla protein powder shake, and eat a cup of Greek yogurt [it is low-fat and has extra protein], and an apple - delicious.

I feel very good throughout the morning, and with no more coffee and diet coke to 'help' me through - if I want something else to eat, I have another apple. Breakfast is very important to our health, and you have lots of food choices that not only won't cause heartburn, but can actually help control it. But like in the case of all acid reflux diet choices, there are tradeoffs and lifestyle changes to be made to get rid of heartburn, and to get health benefits from what we eat -vs- eating in a way that makes heartburn become worse, and lead to acid reflux disease.

Not Eating Breakfast Leaves Your Brain Craving High Calorie Foods

You may have already heard that not eating breakfast, often called the most important meal of the day, isn't a good idea if you're trying to lose weight. But in the rush to get out the door in the morning, many of us just don't have the time, even though studies have shown those who eat breakfast stay slimmer and consume fewer calories during the course of a day.

Now new research has hit upon the explanation.

The work involved 20 healthy, non-obese subjects who skipped breakfast before a fMRI scan.

During the test, the subjects looked at photos of both high and low calorie foods. High calorie choices included pizza, chocolate and cake. The low calorie foods were things like veggies, salad and fish.

Using scans known as function magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) that help doctors look at blood flow in the brain and how it increases in response to brain activity, the researchers were able to compare how breakfast eating vs. breakfast skipping affected the reward center of the brain.

The reward center is known to be a part of the brain involved in keeping track of the pleasure and reward that comes from food, as well as igniting the motivation to eat. The taste, smell and sight of food also serve to activate these reward centers.

What the team found was that the reward center of the brain of the breakfast skippers lit up more vividly when these subjects saw a high calorie food as opposed when they were looking at a healthier alternative.

High calorie foods also were on top of the list of favorites the breakfast skipping subjects listed when asked to rank foods they found most appealing.

Just the opposite was true when it came to the subjects who ate breakfast first, then had the fMRI 90 minutes later.

This time, the reward center of the brain didn't show any greater activity at the sight of the high calorie foods as when looking at the low calorie ones. What's more, the subjects didn't rate the higher calorie foods any more appealing than the lower calorie ones.

"Our results support the advice for eating a healthy breakfast as part of the dietary prevention and treatment of obesity," says Tony Goldstone, MD, PhD, a consultant endocrinologist with the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre at Imperial College, London.

"When people skip meals, especially breakfast, changes in brain activity in response to food may hinder weight loss and even promote weight gain."

Skipping breakfast causes your metabolic rate to slow down while your blood sugar also drops.

This brings on feelings of hunger that set you up for impulse eating later on in the morning, at lunch or dinner.

Eating breakfast at the start of your day gives the body the fuel it needs to feel satisfied, so that you're less likely to overeat, or eat on impulse for the rest of the day.

Here are some quick-to-make, healthy breakfast suggestions to try:

- Milk and whole-grain cereal
- Instant oatmeal topped with raisins and milk
- Whole-grain granola topped with fruit and yogurt
- Peanut butter on whole-wheat toast or a bagel
- Fruit smoothie made with yogurt
- Cheese and whole-grain crackers
- Energy bars so long as you read the labels - some of these have little fiber and as many calories as a candy bar.

Future studies in this area might even uncover ways to prevent the activation of the brain's reward center so that high calorie choices don't seem so appealing.

In the meantime, if you're trying to lose weight or just keep your weight under control not eating breakfast is not an option, as a healthy breakfast including natural sources of protein will help you feel fuller, longer.

Next just head on over to the Daily Health Bulletin for more information why not eating breakfast and skipping meals is bad for your overall health. Plus get 5 free fantastic health reports.

Slimfast and Sushi Diet

I know what you are thinking. Yet an additional one narrative written about dieting. In fact I am an devotee dieter and I believe that I have as much knowledge as any of the experts that we see on television together with Dr, Atkins! So what have I tried? Let's see. I have tried: The predominant Peanut Butter and Ice Cream Diet, The Cabbage Soup Diet, The 3 day Heart savers diet, The Atkins' diet, Sugar Busters, Suzanne Summers (just the diet), lean cuisine, Slim Fast, Jennie Craig, Weight Watchers, the Carbohydrate Lovers diet, protein diet, oh and I forgot one, the low fat diet.

In all, by doing all of the above diets over the past 23 years, I have lost more than 2000 pounds (1 ton). So, yes your honor, I consider myself an devotee in the field of diets. Especially Yo-Yo diets.

Breakfast Pizza

I always weigh myself while dieting, the more times a day the better. It's like those stepping exercises you see in condition clubs. I step on the scale then off the scale...on the scale then off the scale. It's great exercise. I gauge the success of a specific diet by the scale in my bathroom. The scale should be a cheap one that you can "fix" to make it look like you're losing weight. The placement of this scale is of utmost importance. It turns out that my loss of weight in any given day, genuinely depends on which tile the scale is on. You see in each bathroom built in Coral Springs, there is a Nega-tile. This is the one spot in your bathroom, where you can place the scale and you genuinely lose pounds. Don't believe me? Try it yourself. Move the scale at varied points along your bathroom floor and you will find the one spot where you weigh less. I like that spot. It's the negative "G" spot. You will learn to like it too, trust me.

So why haven't the diets worked? It has genuinely nothing to do with me. I think it's because I have a disorder called "I like to Eat". It goes along with an additional one disorder called "Can't Shut My Mouth". I can even eat while I am talking on the phone! There genuinely is nothing wrong with that. Food is good. I like Food. I don't eat to live, I live to eat! It makes me happy. Until I get on the scale. You see, it's the scale that makes me sad. So I believe that I genuinely have a scale problem and food has nothing to do with it.

I get the feeling that when I do go on a diet, or try to exercise, my body goes straight through what I call "Denial". It denies me the quality to lose weight. The way I shape it, the human body is very smart. It knows when you are genuinely serious about dieting and when you are not. I'm definite it gets a real laugh when I start to genuinely practice as it knows that this new way of life, dieting that is, probably isn't going to last very long. One cruise...One buffet... And that's it. Bodies are the problem here, they are in Denial, not me.

I also go to one of those fancy athletic supporter clubs. I call them athletic supporters because I genuinely hold them. I worked it out. I pay almost 0 per visit. Since I pay for the club all year round and show up only once a year, that one time I practice at the club costs me 0. I am athletically supporting the club, pathetically speaking of course.

I have also come to the end that moving a diet drink while eating something fattening like pizza cancels out all the fat in that pizza. The more diet drinks you consume the less likely that the fat is going to ensue you. I think it's something to do with physics. Fat is matter, and diet drinks are anti-matter which when combined, produces something they call in physics "Doesn't Matter".

When I was on The Atkins' diet I was in great shape. I lost a lot of poundage which swiftly came back because who in their right mind can stay on a diet that feeds you fat and denies you fruit and vegetables. I can see Dr. Atkins saying to his patients "Eat this fat...it's good for you! And by the way, have a smoke while you are at it!".

While on the Atkins, I dined at quaint but super breakfast and luncheon restaurants. I would always order a 4 cheese omelet with bacon, sausage and an extra order of sausage on the side for good measure. I would ask the waitress to not bring out the tomatoes or toast because I was on a diet! I would raise my voice slightly, because my dieting was everybody else's problem. I made sure of that. "Atkins?" she asked. "Yes" I said. She shook her head from side to side and walked away laughing to herself. She yelled to the cook " Make that a estimate 2 with a side of sausage!." I screamed back and said " I wish". You see one of the drawbacks of being on the Atkins diet is constipation. Dr. Atkins' has a great sense of humor if nothing else. Given the side affects on this diet...you great have one too!

It's not my fault, I'm handicapped; either horizontally embellished or my girth is excessively accentuated. Should I be responsible for something I can't help? So I have no explanation when it comes to why I am 20-30 pounds overweight at any given time in my life. More specifically I can't seem to get rid of those so called "love handles". Maybe I am fat because I consume too much air or it must be drinking that bottled water. One thing is certain. When you are a Diet devotee like me, you can come up with all sorts of reasons why you haven't lost weight.

Which brings me to the one diet that I know works. It's the infamous or soon to be infamous Sushi-Slim Fast diet plan. (Please note: This is not to be confused by the Modified Wolcove Slimfast diet, invented by a friend of mine. His diet was truly amazing. You have a slim fast shake in the morning, followed immediately by eggs, bacon and sausage. For lunch...another shake, followed by hamburgers and French fries. Then for supper.. It's a big salad, with steak. You leave out the potatoes and desert because after all you are on a diet. He never lost a pound but was very happy.)

Watch out for impostors! Beware of imitations! Make no mistakes. There is only one true and tried Howard Melamed 's Slim-Fast-Sushi diet and remember you heard about it here first on your own.

The charm of this diet is that Sushi is the most filling food that you can get. It does not contain any animal fats, but it does contain good fish oils. Try to eat as much as it takes to fill you up...or stop when you run out of cash. The Slim Fast Shake gives you a stable source of energy, with no fat. It is also the easy way for breakfast since all you have to do is grab one out of the refrigerator. In the table below any lunch can be replaced by Sushi or one of those awful chocolate Slim Fast bars.

Easy Bran Muffin Recipe

This bran muffin recipe is a wonderful alternative to a slice of bread or toast for a quick breakfast, lunch or snack. It's also a great idea to add one to the lunch box.

These bran muffins are great because they provide plenty of soluble and insoluble fiber.
Insoluble fiber keeps the intestines healthy - helping prevent many forms of intestinal cancer. Soluble fiber is great for controlling blood cholesterol and can even help reduce it.

This muffin recipe is very versatile. You can very easily add some grated carrot, apple or mashed banana to vary the taste and add some extra goodness. You can also add some nuts and seeds to give a healthy essential fatty acid boost to the brain which has been proven to really boost children's performance in school and of course it is very beneficial to adults in the same way too. These fats are so important that your body will crave them if it doesn't get them.

* 60ml (1/4c) oil (try canola oil)

1. Preheat the oven to 200 degC (400 degF).
2. Put all the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl.
3. Add the eggs and milk or buttermilk and oil.
4. Mix together until just combined.
5. Depending on your climate, you may have to add a bit more milk. The mixture must not be stiff.
6. Spoon the mixture into greased muffin tins and bake for 15 - 20 minutes until done.

I hope you enjoy them - and remember to have fun playing around with changing this and that. Try adding some grated apple and seeds or nuts to spice it up a bit. Speaking of spice, adding 5ml(1t) of cinnamon would also taste delicious. Cinnamon is great for stabilising blood sugar so that's an added health benefit too! There's really no limit to what you can do.

Wheatgrass is one plant that is absolutely growing in popularity because of the many condition benefits that it provides to you. Making a wheatgrass smoothie absolutely isn't any separate than production any other type of smoothie. One of the first steps to production a wheatgrass smoothie is to juice the wheatgrass using a wheatgrass juicer. This involves the process of extracting the juice from the wheatgrass and the wheatgrass juicer is specially designed to do so because of the delicate nature of this plant.

The Best Lobsters and Fried Clams in Connecticut

Connecticut is known for the abundance of fresh seafood. The seafood can be fairly inexpensive, if you know where to look. You can visit lobster wholesalers and get fresh lobsters "right off the boat" at below market price.

One of my favorite places to visit is Ford's Lobsters located in Noank. Actually a wonderful shot of Ford's is featured in the movie Mystic Pizza, with Julia Roberts.

Mystic is just a few minutes away.

If you don't want to cook the lobsters yourself, you can visit Abbot's, just a few blocks down the road. Abbot's offers incredible seafood. Make sure you order a lobster roll, which is a hotdog bun filled with fresh hot lobster served with melted butter.

My love affair with clams started before I could talk. I love clams in every way: raw clams on the half shell, clams in chowder, stuffed clams, clam fritters but my favorite is fried clams. Now these are not strip clams mind you, these are whole clams fried up with the "bellies" on them.

Clams come in several different varieties. The lager hardshell clams, or quahogs are used for chowder. Some of these shells were made into beads by the local Indians. This was called wampum and was used as money. Generally, the quahog is what is used as a topping for pizza.

Smaller hardshell clams are known as cherrystones or little necks. These clams can be eaten right out of the shell raw with a little lemon or cocktail sauce. My brothers and I have spent countless hours with clam rakes harvesting this tasty fruit of the sea. (We always got our clam permits first. We did not want to get in any trouble with the Clam Commissioner!)

Fried clams are different than quahogs or cherrystones, however. Most people do not even know what fried clams are. They are made from softshell clams. Generally these clams are eaten steamed and are known as steamers. Steamers can be served with a bowl of clam broth and melted butter. You pull off the covering of the clam's foot, wash the clam in some broth and then dip in melted butter.

Fried clams are made from deep fried softshell clams, with the "bellies on them". If you ever get a chance to go to the coast of New England, go to a local clam shack and order up a plate of fried clams! You will not be disappointed.

Here is a list of my favorite clam shacks in Southeastern Connecticut. In Mystic, I like The Cove and the Sea Swirl. In Noank, I like Abbot's sister store, called, (what else) Costello's. In New London, I like Captain Scott's, which is hard to find but located right on the water. In East Lyme, I enjoy Dad's. Moving down the coast to Saybrook, I really like Johnny Ad's. We also spent quite a bit of time this summer at, Lenny and Joe's Fish Tale located in Madison.

Lenny and Joe's Fish Tale, deserve a special mention, here. First, their seafood is fresh and top notch. Second they have have a "flying" carousel or merry-go-round. Every cent collected from the carousel rides is donated to charity. Lenny and Joe's Fish Tale really gives back to the local community. As you can imagine, Kamalei, rode the carousel numerous times. You can watch a video of Lenny and joes' here:

http://www.associatedcontent.com/video/17024/lenny_and_joes_fish_tale_madison_connecticut.html?cat=22

So the next time you find yourself on the New England coast: you gotta try the fried clams!

Easy Quinoa Breakfast Recipes

There are plenty of easy quinoa breakfast recipes that you can find online but I'll only share 3 of my favorites. Quinoa is so versatile that you can practically add anything to it without overpowering the other ingredients.

One of my favorite breakfast recipes is the nutty cinnamon quinoa recipe. You will need a cup of low fat milk or skim milk, a cup of water, a cup of quinoa (well-rinsed), 2 cups fresh blueberries or strawberries, ½ teaspoon finely ground cinnamon, 1/3 cup chopped pecans (or any nut that you prefer) and 4 teaspoons organic nectar.

This is so easy to make, all you have to do is boil the milk, water and quinoa in a saucepan over high heat and then reduce the heat to medium-low, cover and simmer for 15 minutes or until most the liquid is absorbed. Turn off the heat and set it aside for 5 minutes while covered. Mix in cinnamon and blueberries and top with the chopped nuts. Drizzle with nectar and serve.

Another easy quinoa breakfast recipe that I like is the hot quinoa breakfast cereal. You will only need a cup of cooked quinoa, thinly sliced apples, seedless raisins, dash of cinnamon, milk and honey. Mix all the dry ingredients together and serve with milk. You can add honey or low-calorie sugar to taste.

The last easy quinoa breakfast recipe that I found is the peanut butter quinoa recipe. For the ingredients, you need a cup of quinoa, 2 to 3 tablespoons of butter, 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 cup of milk, roasted pecans, raisins or dried cranberries and any fruits of your choice (bananas, strawberries, peaches).

Boil the quinoa with milk, sugar, cinnamon sticks and peanut butter. Reduce the heat to low until the milk is absorbed. Set it aside and cover it for 5 minutes. Add all the ingredients and serve. Now that's easy right?

Cheese Grits a la Louisiana

Recently, I ate at a very favorite restaurant for brunch and undoubtedly loved their cheese grits. Now, every person has at least tried cheese grits at one time or an additional one (I would guess,) but these were different. They had many separate tastes in it with the cheese. It was hard to stop eating, and I mean that literally. (I ordered an additional one serving of the grits. Hahaha). Me and my friends all sat there arguing about exactly what was in the grits that was standing out like that. We are still not in trade whether it was evaporated milk or condensed milk. It's hard to say because they did not seem to be sweet enough to be evaporated milk, but whose to say...they did not give us the recipe. It tastes cheesy, peppery, evaporated milky, thick, very interesting...definitely not like anyone I have ever eaten before. Now, here's the recipe. I hope that you enjoy it like I did.

Cheesy, Milky, Peppery Grits

Breakfast Pizza

3 Cups Grits

2 Cans Evaporated Milk

1 Cup Water

2 Tbsp Freshly Ground Pepper

5 Slices of Cheese (Preferably Velveeta)

Sugar (to your taste)

Salt (to your taste)

I mixed everything together except the cheese, sugar and salt. Put the pot on high to allow the water to boil and add ingredients. Stir often. Once the grits expand, add cheese, sugar, salt before they are cooked. Taste and adjust to your liking.

And remember, all of our taste buds are different, so be sure to convert the amounts as needed for your taste. I just know that you will love it...Happy Eating!

Rachael Ray Picks the Best Pizza in America

Arizona pizza just got a little bit of respect. While most people would pick either the cities Chicago or New York as having the best pizza, Rachael Ray Magazine's March 2010 issue has crowned a Phoenix, Arizona pizza restaurant as best in the whole USA.

The magazine enlisted Adam Kuban and Ed Levine from the website SeriousEats.com to find the best pie in the 50 states. Kuban and Levine flew around America scouting for the best pizza in the country. They divided the country into regions and picked 64 pizzerias to try. Pizzeria Bianco won the top slot.

Co-owner and chef of Pizzeria Bianco, Chris Bianco, is no stranger to accolades. He won the prestigious James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Southwest in 2003 (the Oscar of the restaurant industry). This is not the first time writer Ed Levine has eaten at Pizzeria Bianco. He wrote about it in the New York Times and for his book "Pizza: A Slice of Heaven."

Why Bianco? "Pizza is all about balance, texture, skill and taste," Levine says. He adds that Bianco "isn't trying to replicate Neapolitan pizza," but that "he's bringing his own artistry and craftsmanship." "You can taste how much he cares," says Levine.

Chris Bianco hasn't just leant his name to the sign on the building. For over 20 years he has overseen every pizza that came out of his wood-fired pizza. Unfortunately asthma has gotten the better of him and he has had to step away from the oven.

Along with Phoenix pizza, here is the line up of top pizzerias in America according to Levine and Kuban:

Pizzeria Bianco - Phoenix, Arizona
Great Lake Chicago, Illinois
Motorino - New York, New York
Pizzeria Mozza - Los Angeles, California
Verasano's Pizzeria - Atlanta, Georgia
Dough Pizzeria Napoletana - San Antonio, Texas
Antico Pizza Napoletana - Atlanta, Georgia
Russo's NY Coal-Fired Pizza - Houston, Texas

Restaurants in Kailua - Enchanted Lake Oahu, Hawaii

While I was working in Kailua (Oahu Hawaii) I had the advantage of eating out at a restaurant on my lunch break every day that I was stationed out there. I was scheduled to work 7 days in Kailua so I know I would have the opening to eat at a lot of places.

I was not well-known with restaurants in Kailua. My only other visit to Kailua was when my mom used to bring me Kailua for dentist appointments in the 3rd grade.

Breakfast Pizza

Day three of my work week on the east side of Oahu, Hawaii brought me to a town within the Kailua area called Enchanted lake. By the looks of the map it seemed as though the town was situated in a tight 1 mile circumference with a two way road looping you colse to the town. We were installing light fixtures in a restaurant called "Round Table Pizza" located in the Enchanted lake Shopping center. Soon after that we jumped over the street to install the same lighting in "The Shack" restaurant which is kind of a sport bar with breakfast, lunch and dinner menus.

I was on a crusade to find some food for my lunch break here in Enchanted lake, Kailua. After working in the Round table pizza Hawaii restaurant I took my lunch break and headed down the shopping center to a restaurant called "The Food Company".

It was engaging because I had heard of "The Food Company" restaurant by a few locals and also from the website. But one thing that I noticed while working earlier in the day was that at 9:30 in the morning even before the store opened there was four population exterior waiting to get in. As the day went on the customers never stopped coming to 'The Food Company' for a bite to eat and at lunch the place was packed. I decided that 100+ population couldn't be wrong so Ill go ahead and try out their menu.

The Food firm did not disappoint, they had all the local favorites from fish and seafood/sushi items to authentic Asian dishes. They also had a light Polynesian menu as well. I tried the Bar-B-Que bento mix plate and it was delicious. The prices were ok but the food was well worth it.

Boys Food - Boys Know What They Like to Eat and Eat Plenty of It

Does boys food differ from the foods that girls choose to eat? The answer to that question is yes. Boys do seem to like different foods than girls. In fact, when presented with options or choices of foods, boys will choose separate foods than girls will choose. Boys know what they like to eat and eat plenty of it.

Boys Choose Certain Beverages
Even their beverage choices differ. Boys tend to choose sports drinks or sodas over other beverages when given the choice. Yet, girls tend to want to drink either water or fruit juice. However, one choice they agree on is milk. Both boys and girls do choose milk when it is an option. Boys especially seem to like chocolate milk.

Amount of Food Boys Eat
Boys tend to eat more than girls. Boys' portions or helpings of meats, vegetables, fruits, and desserts are often much larger than the portions girls choose for themselves. Boys also tend to eat faster than girls and more frequently than girls.

Typical Boys Food
What foods do boys typically like to eat? Of course, every boy is different and has varying tastes. However, some foods are typically favorites among boys. These foods include chicken tenders, French fries, pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken wings. Any mom who has sons knows these particular foods will go over well with boys of any age.

Boys Like to Eat Fast Food
Boys do like to eat at fast food restaurants. Examples of these restaurant chains include McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Pizza Hut, and Papa John's Pizza. These chains usually carry the foods boys most like to eat including pizza and French fries. The only problem with these chain restaurants is that the food they serve is usually not the healthiest food available, and growing boys need their vitamins.

Boys and Fruit
Boys food does not usually include fresh fruits. They will choose to eat fruit flavored snacks or fruit bars over fresh fruits such as bananas, oranges, or apples. Boys are more likely to eat fruit that has been cooked in pies (like blueberry pie) or in muffins (like strawberry muffins).

Boys and Desserts
Boys do eat their fair share of desserts. They seem to like them all. They typically eat all flavors of ice cream, cakes, pies, brownies, cookies, and all flavors of pudding. In fact, many boys would prefer their desserts first at mealtime.

Boys do have their likes and preferences when it comes to the foods they choose to eat. Boys tend to like to eat foods based upon the flavors of the foods, not the nutritional values of the foods. As the boys grow older, they begin to see the importance of nutritional value and their food likes and dislikes change and evolve over time.

easy Diabetic Recipes

As a diabetic, are you enduringly looking for uncomplicated diabetic recipes? Recipes for diabetics sometimes offer some very bland and common menu ideas. Here are a merge of my favorite recipes for diabetics that taste great. Your non diabetic family members will love them, too!

First, let me say I am not a nutritionist nor medical expert of any kind. I am, however, diabetic having been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 1996. These recipes are a compilation of ones I have used since then.

Breakfast Pizza

Breakfast is one of our most important meals. Beginning the day with a good morning meal gives us energy for the rest of the day. This is even more important if you are diabetic. Here then, are two of my favorite diabetic morning meal recipes.

Fruity Bran Yogurt

Pick any fresh fruit...a small banana, medium sized peach, half a cup of fresh blueberries... Whatever you like best. Toss it into a blender with 1 cup skim or non fat milk, 1/2 cup of plain non fat yogurt, about a teaspoon of vanilla extract, a teaspoon or two of sugar and 1/4 cup of your favorite bran flakes. I like to add about 1/2 cup of ice. Blend until flat and pour into an 8 ounce glass or goblet. Sprinkle with cinnamon and wow! What a great and quick starter.

Quick French Toast

You don't have to give up on pancakes or french toast when you have diabetes. Just make a few substitutions and a great diabetic morning meal method is soon on your table.

For this one whisk 2 eggs, 1/4 cup of orange juice and a dash of salt in a bowl. Into a detach flat pan you will need either 1/2 cup of crushed bran or corn flakes, or some crushed pecans. Or you can mix the two together for added taste. Melt two or three tablespoons of margarine in a frying pan. Dip slices of whole wheat bread into the egg mix and then into your crushed dry mix and line the frying pan. Cook until brown on both sides. Serve with fresh peaches or blueberries as a topping. Who says cooking for diabetics has to be boring?

These are just a merge of my favorites. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

There are a great many raw recipes that are very quick and easy to prepare. When you have the items on hand, you will find that you can make a lot of great items in just a few short minutes so even if you are very busy you can make the raw lifestyle a part of your every day life.

Another delicious recipe is raw oatmeal... to prepare you'll need:

2 apples
1 banana
1 tablespoon golden flax seeds
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Water

Place flax seeds in enough water to cover them and allow to sit over night. In the morning peel the apples (unless organic) and chop and peel the banana and break into pieces. Rinse the flax seeds. Put all of these items into a blender and mix, adding about 1/4 cup water. For a twist you can replace the water with juice or almond milk for a whole new taste.

To simplify this beginner recipe even more, use chia seeds instead of flax. This can cut down soak time to just 5 or 10 minutes. Additionally, although often more expensive, chia seeds are said to be nutritionally superior to flax seeds.

Once you get a few raw food recipes mastered, you will see that they may all be considered 'simple' and 'for beginners'. You'll probably find that the raw recipes that you used as a beginner will also be the same ones you used after adhering to the raw lifestyle for some time.

splendid Cooking With the George Foreman Grill

When it comes to cooking enjoyment and more importantly, convenience, there will be no other appliance in your kitchen that can match the George Foreman Grill. There is a variety of models to select from, but at the top of my list is Foreman's Grilleration Grill. It will everything all Foreman models do, plus you can cook your whole breakfast on it, from eggs to waffles.

Regardless of the time of day or the meal you want to prepare, the Foreman grills are ready to serve. You can cook breakfast by plainly utilizing the handy flat grill for eggs & bacon, pancakes, etc. It is so amazing, that it has come to be a centerpiece of kitchen conference with friends and quests.

Breakfast Pizza

I think the convenience factor is the singular most beneficial trait of this grill, especially when you have an whole house to feed and not much time to do it in. For lunch, you can speedily and painlessly cook grill cheese sandwiches, or just as no ifs ands or buts generate mouth-watering quesadillas. The clean-up of this grill then is what makes it a extraordinary kitchen appliance.

Something you may not expect to get when purchasing a griddle of sorts, is a cookbook. This small guide is chalk-full of quick and easy recipes for any time of day. One surprise method we found was for pizza. Yes, pizza can be made with this grill...amazing! If you would prefer, you can use the grill for approximately any cooking...fish sticks, French fries, etc.

After dinner desert can also be made with this grill. Check out the quality to make chocolate chip cookies. Now you may say...hey, I can cook French fries and cookies in my oven. Yes, though while it is true, you would need to clean a amount of pans. With this grill, it is a simple clean up after each meal, then it is ready to go again.

Food Nutrition and Breakfast - What Is the Connection?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and should contain the right amount of food nutrition to keep you going for the rest of the day. It is also the meal that is most often skipped by children as well as adults in the pretext of going to school, office etc. But a healthy and nutritious breakfast is very important to keep your body fit and healthy and provide you with the energy levels required for being active the whole day.

There are many overweight people who skip breakfast thinking it is a good way to lose weight. But skipping a meal, especially breakfast, will only make you pile up calories and have the reverse effect. Though any kind of breakfast is fine, it is best not to consume doughnuts, pancakes or pastries on a daily basis as these contain high levels of sugar and is also high in calories.

A food nutrition specialist will tell you that the ideal breakfast must contain grains in the form of bread or cereals, fruits, protein in the form of eggs, meat and nuts and dairy products like milk or cheese. These are low in calories but provide wholesome nutrition that is required to stay fit and healthy. A nutritious breakfast will help the digestive system to work normally after a night's rest and produce the right environment to digest the later meals of the day. When you skip breakfast, the acid levels of the stomach go up which can result in bloating, irritation, gas and discomfort and in the long run can lead to the development of ulcers.

Some nutritious and healthy breakfast ideas recommended by food nutrition experts include omelets, boiled eggs, French toast, dry toast with low fat butter, jam or marmalade, cornflakes and low fat milk, oats with nuts and fruits, cheese slices and a slice of fruit. If you are in a hurry and cannot find the time to have an elaborate and sit down breakfast, prepare a power smoothie with fruits, nuts, milk or yoghurt. This can be carried in a bottle and consumed on the way too which is great for saving time. Fruit smoothies are also a great idea as a mid day snack for you as well as your children instead of munching on high calorie chips and fast food.

If your children are not interested in taking the typical breakfast or eggs and toast, then try new recipes which is not only fun and interesting but also contain the right food nutrition to keep them energetic throughout the day. Leftover meat or chicken pieces are great for the next morning breakfast; you can use this to make a healthy pizza with fresh veggies and chicken pieces but go easy on the cheese. You can also make grilled sandwiches using fresh vegetables and smother it with low fat homemade mayo which is healthy as well as enjoyed by children.

Remember, the key point is not to skip breakfast but to consume the right food nutrition which will keep you fit, robust and healthy.

breakfast Recipes - My Top 5 beloved breakfast Recipes

There are so many choices for the most prominent meal of the day but when it comes down to it, these are my top 5 beloved morning meal recipes. Although they are numbered, they are in no special beloved order.

I just love these morning meal recipes.

Breakfast Pizza

1) Potato Pancakes.

This morning meal formula is a for real great ease food. With the potato flavor, its taste is just satisfying. There are so many options and depending on how I feel, there are just so many things I can do with it. If I am in the mood for something sweet, I would add some apple sauce or syrup.

However, if I am finding for a more savory dish, I would add some sour cream or cream of mushroom soup as the topping. Even without anyone on the side, potato pancakes make for a nice starter in the morning.

2) Hashbrown Casserole

I love hashbrown casserole because it combines all the goodness a hashbrown has to offer with cheese, chicken, sour cream, and other appetizing additions. For days that I need a big morning meal with distinct classifications of food, this would be the one.

Make this formula the night before and just heat it up whether in the oven, if you have time, or in the microwave, if you are running out the door.

3) Eggs Benedict

This is one of my favorites because there is just so much that goes into Eggs Benedict. It isn't your typical eggs and toast morning meal because this one has a poached egg on top of an English muffin and is topped off with Hollandaise sauce.

Not to mention the goodness that the cheese and ham or Canadian bacon can add to the ensemble. No doubt it is the excellent combo of morning meal ingredients.

4) Belgian waffles

Waffles are great because they are crispy and it is yet other formula that I can experiment with. Belgian waffles are easy to make and there are so many things that go great with it like cream, fruit, or butter.

In my morning meal recipes collection, you will see the incompatibility between quarterly waffles versus the Belgian waffles.

5) Homemade pancakes

I included homemade pancakes on the list because it is something that I can't find everywhere else. There is just something about pancakes that are made from scratch that are better than the industrial mix.

On Sunday mornings, this is one of the most requested recipes in my household. My daughter loves to help portion out the ingredients and because she gets complicated in manufacture of the homemade pancakes, she loves eating it as well.

What a concept to have your children support in manufacture the recipe, and in turn they will most likely support in eating it too. This technique cures the picky eater syndrome.

So there you have it, these are my top 5 morning meal recipes. No doubt you'll wake up to a salutary (and delicious) start. I hope this will inspire you to come up with your very own top 5 morning meal recipes. If these recipes that I mentioned here happen to be your top five as well, then we may just have something in common.

The Best Tasting Nutrisystem Foods

In the past, I've written about Nutrisystem and my experiences on it.  One of the most common comments that I get is "honestly, how does the Nutrisystem food taste?  Which foods are good and which foods are really bad?"  I'll answer this question in the following article.  Obviously, I can't even come close to commenting on every food, as this diet has 120 choices, but I will tell you what I believe that be standouts (both the good and the bad) and I'll include some of the new supposed "restaurant quality frozen foods" in the list.  The good news is that this diet allows you to customize your package and hand pick your food, so you won't be stuck with anything that you can't stand.

The Nutrisystem Breakfast Foods That Taste Good:  I am very partial to the muffins.  The poppy seed and the blueberry are outstanding and do not taste like diet food. Also, these are very convenient.  You don't really need to do anything to them.

There are also a lot of bars in the breakfast line up and some are tasty to me, but some aren't. The ones that I like are the chocolate chip, the cinnamon swirl, and the apple strudel.  I do not like the cranberry or the harvest nut, but I'm not a fan of dried fruit.

There are also cereals and oatmeal.  I do really like the oatmeal.  It doesn't have any weird after taste about it like I suspected.  The blueberry is my favorite. Of the dry cereals, I like the Cluster Crunch as it is sort of a mix between cheerios and honey nut clusters.

Nutrisystem Dinner Stand Outs:  There are a couple meals that I really like in the dinner category.  These are the raviolis and the pizzas. You can chose from cheese or cheese and spinach as far as ravioli goes. Both are go and there's no so much spinach in it so that it has a strong taste.  In terms of pizza, you have a few choices, the flat bread, the sour dough and the thick crust.  All is pretty decent, but I'm partial to the flat bread.  If you've going to compare these in terms of Pizza Hut (but not so greasy and lower calories of course) the flat bread is like thin and crispy, the sour dough is kind of like hand tossed and the thick crust is sort of like a pan.

I also like the vegetarian chili, the tacos (although the shell is more like a tostada) and the chicken sandwich.  In general, I steer clear of the pastas and the stroganoffs.  I don't like for my food to be all mixed together like that, but that's just how I feel about all stroganoffs,  not just Nutrisystem's.

Decent Tasting Snacks And Desserts: I'm going to admit it. The breakfasts and the snacks are my favorite part of this diet.  There is very little that is bad here.  I adore the pound cake, the almond biscotti, the candy bars, and the fudge brownie the most, but the only dessert that I really don't eat is the Blueberry lemon bar.  Again, I don't like my flavors mixed.  I would've rather had just a lemon or just a blueberry bar, but that's just me.

As far as the snacks go, you'll never mistake the cheese puffs for Cheetos, but they're really not half bad. They kind of taste like the baked Cheetos. I also like the zesty herb snack mix because it reminds me of the chex mix I often make with my kids.

The Nutrisystem Lunch: In my opinion, this is the weakness of the foods.  More of these taste bad than the other options.  There are just many soups and stroganoffs here, which we've already established that I don't like.  But, I do like the cheese tortellini, the chicken salad, and red beans and rice.  Most times, I will just order more of the dinners and go light on the lunches with my order.

Villaware galvanic Skillet

As a person who grew up on electric stoves, I was shocked when I bought by first home and it came with gas, instead of electric. It was a shock not only to me, but also to my body. The taste of the food was noticeably separate and I did not like this new change. Unfortunately, seeing as I had just bought a home, money was tight and I could not afford to get my stove changed to the way I liked it. That is why I had to buy an electric skillet. When I was seeing around, I found that the Villaware electric skillet was the best deal for my money.

The Villaware electric skillet comes with a twelve inch pan for me to do all my cooking in. This is more than sufficient room for me to cook any meal of the day: whether its eggs and bacon for breakfast, a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch or lamb chops and vegetables for dinner, it fits all my needs. And because the pan is non stick and so easy to clean, I authentically can use it three times a day without getting the taste of eggs on my lamb chops. The Villaware electric skillet also comes with a glass lid, which I simply adore because I can finally watch my food as it is prepared. I no longer have to play that guessing game of lifting the lid up and rolling my eyes in disappointment. The Villaware electric skillet also comes with stainless steel cooking handles, so be right when lifting it up after cooking up something good. Add in a food thermometer for safely checking the temperature of your food and you are all set to start cooking.

Breakfast Pizza

Whenever you order a Villaware electric skillet, you will also get a few yummy recipes that you can use for the first time you cook or every time you cook. You will get a recipe for All American pancakes, French toast or potato pancakes for breakfast. If you would like recipes for meals that are not breakfast, try out southern fried chicken, Spanish paella, Italian sausage, Italian risotto, Texas chili, fried rice, couscous, beef stroganoff and Cajun jambalaya for your eating pleasure.
As you can see a Villaware electric skillet can be a fun and convenient tool for anyone to use. whether you are like me and you don't like the taste of food made on a gas stove or you need a skillet for an Rv or camper, a Villaware electric skillet can be the right choice for you!

The Rock Wood Fired Pizza in Lynnwood, Washington

The Rock Wood Fired Pizza and Spirits located on 196 Avenue in Lynnwood is truly a destination for pizza lovers.  One of 10 restaurants in the local chain, The Rock features handmade artisan pizzas with names like 'Bad to the Bone', 'Meaty beaty Big and Bouncy' and 'Yellow Brick Road'.  All the pizzas are of course handmade on fresh dough, using ingredients the likes of which you will never find at one of the national pizza shops.  It also goes without saying, that their pizzas get a little extra flavor from not being cooked in a standard commercial pizza oven, but a real pizza oven that gives their crust flavor that is hard to beat.

If that weren't enough, The Rock also serves up its own line of micro brewed beer to wash its pizza down with.  How can you go wrong when you pair any of their scrumptious pizzas with a cold glass of beer such as their Rock Steady Red, Sledge Hammer IPA, or our favorite the Suicide Blonde Pilsner.  Of course if something stiffer is what you're wanting to drink, they have a full bar at your disposal and you may wish to order up A Bucket, limit two per person please!

If you haven't deduced by now, The Rock has a definite Rock And Roll theme.  The decor is best described as 'old industrial', featuring worn brick walls and metal.  Guitars, posters of album covers and other rock 'n roll paraphernalia round things out, giving The Rock a very distinct and relaxed feel.

One last very important thing to mention about the rock is that it has an all you can eat lunch buffet!  For one low price you can have a drink, salad and as much of their unparalleled pizza is you can pack away.  This is a great way to try The Rock out and test out a variety of their pizzas.  If you're in Lynnwood and looking for a place to have lunch I highly suggest you drop in!

Making Incredible Sauces in Your Own Home

According to Food Lover's Companion, a sauce is "a thickened, flavored liquid intended to accompany food so that you can improve and carry out its taste." Now that it can cover quite a bit of territory. It goes on to say, "In the days ahead of refrigeration, however, sauces were more generally utilized to smoothen the taste of meals that had started to go lousy."

But within the 19th century, the French made an intricate approach for making sauces that's still getting taught in cooking schools all around the globe. This method will involve quite a few steps and for those who have the time.

Here may be the short and effortless 5 step treatment to make a fantastic sauce.

(1) Sauté a chopped shallot or modest onion in a single ounce of butter (1/4 stick) for 1-2 minutes right up until translucent.

(2) Deglaze with 1/2-cup red wine and decrease to an essence (roughly one particular tablespoon of remaining liquid). Be sure you take away the pan from the warmth earlier than deglazing.

(3) Add 8 ounces of demi-glace.

(4) Minimize the sauce right up until it's thick sufficient to coat a spoon.

(5) Season with freshly ground pepper to taste. One particular last material that is certainly optional but typically used by professional chefs is usually a pat of butter. It adds somewhat a lot more taste and shine towards the finished sauce.

Now that you know these things, at this point you may have a delicious sauce you can serve or use like a base and layer in a lot more flavors by including supplemental components which includes fresh herbs and spices, fruits, chutneys, relish, or cream. When you are adding mushrooms or other components that really need to cook a little, add them into the pan suitable immediately after you add the wine and let them cook whilst the wine is reducing.
