Healthy Breakfasts - All the Energy to Keep You Going

Breakfast is by far the most important meal of my day. It is a very important meal at my place as I personally feel that it is one that sets the mood and decides my energy levels for the day.

For many of my dieting friends, the first thing on the list to skip is "breakfast". However, I believe if you skip this first meal of the day then you are going to have to skip a lot of things for the day. You are definitely not going to have the energy to sustain a tight schedule. Skipping breakfast is one rule that many on a diet follow. However, this ends up as the main reason for them not being able to achieve their target even after several days and months. It is just not good to skip breakfast.

By skipping breakfast you not only deprive your body of essential nutrition that gives you energy to go through the day's activities but also end up eating more junk food during the day. Missing a meal makes you feel hungry and the body craves for all the wrong things. For satisfying your cravings you would then end up eating more than you would have otherwise.

No breakfast day means a low blood sugar level of sugar to start with. You would just be lazing through the day rather than deal with the tasks head on. Your day is sure to be one of low productivity and complaints. Both energy and concentration levels are affected without the right food to pep start your day. Studies go to show that children who start off their day without breakfast perform very badly in school.

There are a whole lot of options in every cuisine for a delicious great start - a combination of both taste and health. Cereals and milk, toast with eggs (of your choice) and a glass of juice is surely one breakfast that takes care of all your nutritional needs and at the same time gives you the energy to go on face the world.

The same old breakfast recipes every day can however, be very boring. Innovating and experimenting with new recipes is the best way to ensure that your family looks forward to breakfast time. It's not only the adults but kids too like variety and so trying new recipes and ingredients is the key to beginning your day with a smile. Make food more attractive with good presentation and a change of taste that will keep then guessing about all the ingredients that have gone in.

To begin with the glass of juice can be replaced with a milkshake or a delicious smoothie. This way you do ensure the right intake in terms of nutritional value and the kids are happy with the taste. A healthy breakfast is the best way to start your day. Healthy cereals with a combination of dried fruits and served with a generous helping of fruits is a great idea. Substituting the regular milk with soy milk is definitely a very healthy option. Make the omelets more interesting with a variety of ingredients like tomatoes, bell peppers, mushrooms and even low fat sausages.

Experiment, trying different permutations and combinations is the key to cutting out the monotony and making your day more interesting and enjoyable.

A Few Things You Should Know About Pizza Dough

Many people are intimidated by the thought of making their own pizza dough from scratch although the process is a relatively simple one especially once you have made your first batch. In addition, although frozen pizza dough may be convenient and relatively inexpensive, the taste rarely mimics authentic, handmade pizza dough giving you even more reason to try making your own.

Flour is your friend when it comes to working with pizza dough. Always have a few tablespoons nearby in case your dough is unmanageable or sticks to your hands when kneading. You will also need to add some flour to your dough if you are rolling it out with a rolling pin to keep it from sticking and ripping apart.

Breakfast Pizza

Always roll from the center to the outer edges and sprinkle some flour on the underside of the dough as well. Keep rolling the dough until you notice it losing most of its elasticity. Then, using a fork, prick a few holes through the dough before baking to keep air bubbles from forming.

Once you have become familiar working with the dough, making a double crusted pizza is another way of creating a delicious dish and satisfying meal. Use two balls of dough and roll each out into circular shapes as you would when making an ordinary pizza but overlap the two pieces after adding the sauce and fillings.

The easiest way to tell your pizza has cooked for the proper length of time is when you notice the dough turning a golden brown color. The crust or edges should be slightly darker and the bottom of the pizza should be browned evenly. The cheese will also darken and be completely melted on a pizza that has cooked long enough.

Quick and Healthy Breakfast Pizza Recipe

What You Need

Nonstick cooking spray 1 11 ounce package refrigerated pizza crust 1 tablespoon butter 2 cups liquid egg whites, refrigerated 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1/4 teaspoon onion powder 1-1/2 cups frozen vegetables, your choice, thawed 1-1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded 1/2 cup pepper jack cheese, shredded 3 frozen turkey sausage patties, thawed

How to Make It

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Coat a large baking sheet with the nonstick cooking spray and unroll the refrigerated pizza crust onto it.

Bake the dough partially for about 5 minutes and then set aside.

In a large skillet, melt the tablespoon of butter then add the egg whites, salt and pepper, and onion powder and scramble the eggs until they are just firm.

Spoon the scrambled eggs over top of the partially baked pizza crust and then top with the thawed, frozen vegetables. Cut the thawed patties of turkey sausage into small, bite sized pieces, and distribute evenly on top of the pizza.

Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and pepper jack cheese on top of everything and bake for about 8 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the crust is a golden brown color.

Slice and serve your healthy breakfast pizza while still hot.

Serves 8.

A Few Things You Should Know About Pizza Dough

Vary the pizza recipes you use when making dinners for your family to keep everyone interested. You can also make variations to the pizza dough recipe you use by changing the types of flour as well as using butter instead of oil for coating the dough before baking.

Schamburg Illinois Restaurant Guide

Schaumburg Restaurants

I have lived in Schaumburg Illinois for over 30 years and have eaten at almost every restaurant in Schaumburg. If you are out of towners or live in Schaumburg you will find you answers here.

If you are looking for the best breakfast you will ever have go to Richard Walkers located 1/4 mile north of Golf Road on Roselle Rd. You want to order an apple pancake and plan to be full for the rest of the day. Every thing at Richard Walkers is great to eat and the service is outstanding. On the bossiest days (Sat. & Sun) you should plan to wait about 15 to 20 minutes. Do not stay in Schaumburg Illinois and not pass up Richard Walkers for breakfast.

If your in Chicago land you need to have deep dish pizza. The restaurant in Schaumburg for Pizza is Lou Malnatis located at the corner of Schaumburg Rd and Roselle rd. They have outstanding deep-dish pizza that will melt in your mouth. I have never tasted any other food besides the pizza but it is a good family restaurant.

The best Mexican food in Schaumburg is served up at El Meson located less than a quarter mile west of Roselle Rd on Schaumburg Rd in the small strip mall. Their Margaritas and Sangria are awesome; they will not reveal their recipe for the Sangria if asked. Food is great but the service is sometimes slow.

If your looking for Italian food in Schaumburg then go to Maggianos located by Streets of WoodField. When you walk into Maggianos your mouth will start watering with the smells of garlic bread and Pasta. They have good service the only draw back is that parking and the wait are horrible on the weekends.

The hands down sea food king in Schaumburg is Shaws Crab house located in Streets of Woodfield. All I can say is the is your around for crab fest or lobster fest bring a bigger belt because you will eat a lot. Great Service and great sea food don't miss out on Shaws Crab.

I will keep you updated on the best Schaumburg Restaurants.

Orange Juicers - Not Just For Breakfast Anymore

You may have heard amazing things about the power of certain foods to prevent chronic illness and the breakdown of cells from aging. Many of these foods are on the expensive end of things, but one great source of antioxidants can be purchased by the dozen for only a few dollars: oranges.

You may not feel excited about the common orange: after all, it's available all over the place, and with the inedible peel it can be messy to eat. An orange juicer conquers this while providing an easy way to get all the valuable nutrients that oranges offer, including folate, potassium, Vitamin B6, Thiamine, Niacin, and fiber.

Breakfast Pizza

Homemade orange juice also contains limonoids. These molecules are what lend the citrusy smell we associate with oranges. Because they can add a bitter taste, sometimes mass juice producers filter it from the juice, but limonoids are driving research that provides evidence that they are natural cancer fighters and pesticides. Making yourself a fresh glass of OJ every morning with your orange juicer may be the biggest favor you can do for your health and longevity.

But Which Orange Juicer Is The One?

Buying an orange juicer can be like car shopping; there's a huge range of orange juicers available. Do you want a Rolls Royce, a Toyota, or a 16-passenger van? On one end of things, you can buy a very low-upkeep manual juicer that fits over a pitcher. Simply cut an orange in half opposite to the stem's axis, press and grind. A few oranges later, you have a glass of juice so fresh it's practically bursting with flavor.

You can then step up to electric juicers, for the juice barista and consumer alike. That electric motor makes life a bit easier, and a little shopping around for a model with easy clean-up is definitely worthwhile. These models, also called reamers, generally extract a larger portion of juice than non-appliance manual types. They come in a wide range of horsepower and wattage. If you're just making yourself a glass for breakfast, you can grab a nice one for under a hundred dollars easily.

The next step on the orange juicer scale are large-scale automatic juicers. These are perfect for the restaurateur, and are usually prominently displayed for their theatrical quality. These have a fairly large footprint and can produce a lot of juice in a short amount of time-you can also expect to spend a few grand on them.

Orange Juicers - Not Just For Breakfast Anymore

If you think you may want one of these orange juicers, find one with a large amount of transparency; that way you can really get the appeal of the process. Often operating with ramps and conveyor belts, these larger machines take whole oranges, split them in half, and juice them right in front of your eyes. It's very cool to watch, and can act as a great draw for customers and little ones. Whatever orange juicer [http://juicersforyou.com/Juicers/orange-juicers] you pick, make sure you save some juice for yourself!

Try a "Yes Day" in Negotiations

I was reading Yes Day! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld to my three year old grandson, Jack. After reading it to him only once, it is now his favorite book.

The tag line is "What do you call a day when every answer is yes?" The answer is "Yes Day!" There are questions such as: 1) Can I please have pizza for breakfast? 2) Can I clean my room tomorrow? and 3) Can we stay up really late? In the real world outside our book, the answer to such questions usually is "no", but the book advocates saying "yes" on "Yes Day."

The alternatives to "Yes Day" are the thirty-four ways to say "no" such as
1)"No way, Jose Day",
2) "Hands on Hips Day,
3) "Not Today Day,"
4)When Pigs Fly Day," and
5) "Read My lips Day".

You get the idea. We are so programmed to say "no" that we hardly ever say "yes" anymore.

Yes Day! is a children's book, but it is really geared toward the parents and grandparents, who are reading the book to the kids. They are usually the ones saying "no."

I was thinking that "Yes Day" also has application to adult negotiations. We are conditioned to say "no" to any idea or suggestion that someone else makes. We almost automatically say no to an idea that is not ours. Somehow "no" is much easier to say than "yes" and that continues throughout our lives. Why is that? Is it just easier to use one of the 34 "no" excuses? The people in the "Yes Book" look as though they are having fun by staying up late, having food fights and getting piggy back rides. Maybe we could have more fun saying "yes" more often and we are missing out saying "no" all the time.

In an adult negotiation, you might take the other side by surprise by saying "yes." You might catch them off guard since we usually expect an argument. What are we afraid of? Is there some commitment in saying "yes"? Are we hesitant to agree to trying something new? Do we think we look weak? Do we think we are the only ones with good ideas? That reminds me of the pillow I recently saw that says, "I am not bossy, I just have better ideas!"

If you don't want to be perceived as "giving in", You can always say we will try it this once or we will put in a pilot program to see if it works.

Try having a "Yes Day" and see where it takes you!

Let me know if it works.

Vegetarian Restaurants Serve Much More Than Salad

Vegetarian restaurants have gotten a bad rap over the years. Meat marketers denigrate vegan dining establishments for serving only "rabbit food," saying that patrons leave hungry. But nothing could be further from the truth. Here are ten tasty, filling meals you can only find on a vegetarian restaurant menu.

#1. Grilled Seitan Sandwich - Seitan, a wheat-based meat replacement that has a texture very similar to poultry, is a delicious sandwich-stuffer popular with vegetarians and vegans alike. Try a barbecue seitan sandwich for a rib sticking treat.

#2. Real-Deal Veggie Pizza - Veggie mozzarella cheese replaces dairy cheese on the pizza at a vegetarian restaurant. Virtually indistinguishable from the real thing, veggie mozzarella melts and stretches with the same gooey goodness. Add peppers, onions and sun-dried tomatoes to make it really great.

#3. Tofu Scramble - A common feature on vegan restaurant Sunday brunch menus, the tofu scramble is a loaded jumble of tofu and fresh veggies. It has all the taste of a breakfast scramble at other restaurants without the fat and cholesterol. You leave your table full every time.

#4. Veggie Burger - Thick and juicy, veggie burgers have come a long way since they were introduced over 20 years ago. With variations such as spicy black bean and italian herb, you'll be sure to find a veggie burger to suit you.

#5. Portabello Burger - Vegetarian restaurants take a burger-sized portabello mushroom, marinate it in savory herbs and spices, then grills it up and serves it on a bun. Meaty and filling, it is especially satisfying.

#6. Hummus with Bread - Hummus, a spicy spread reminiscent of bean dip, is fantastic on fresh pita bread. Many vegan restaurants make their own custom blend of hummus and bake the pita bread fresh daily. You can order it for your appetizer or make an entire meal of this Mediterranean favorite.

#7. Veggie Wrap - Packed with vegetables, vegan cheese and sometimes nuts, the veggie wrap makes a great companion to a bowl of soup or a salad. The veggie wrap has become so popular at vegetarian restaurants that some traditional restaurants have stolen the recipes for themselves.

#8. Vegan waffles with soy sausage - Vegetarian restaurant chefs have mastered the art of fluffy, delicious waffles without eggs, making them a favorite on the veggie breakfast menu. Couple the waffles with a smoky soy sausage and you've got yourself a home-style favorite.

#9. Fake Egg Salad - Once the chef finishes blending tofu with vegan mayo and his or her secret egg salad ingredients, it is extremely similar to the egg salad you'd order somewhere else. The only thing missing is the fat, cholesterol and calories loaded into traditional egg salad. You don't really miss those, do you?

#10. Grilled Cheeseless Sandwich - By simply replacing the dairy cheese with vegan cheese, this old trusty drops 197 calories, 12 g of fat, and 85 mg of cholesterol. Add a cup of vegetarian soup at your favorite vegetarian restaurant for a hot, healthy lunch.

Vegan restaurants cook up healthy, hearty meals to appeal to a variety of taste preferences. Order one of these filling meals next time you visit a vegetarian restaurant and you won't leave hungry.
