Going on a weekend away with our son, Jac is a challenging task due to the fact that he has a very specific diet. He cannot eat anything containing gluten.
During this single weekend, we decided to stay at the Kalahari Resort in Lake Delton which farranging was a fantastic experience. The Kalahari has a bar and grill restaurant off the waterpark which offered some items that Jac could. We also decided to take a cooler with us on this trip and filled it with some items which made it easier to eat morning meal and lunch in our room. We brought sandwich bread, lunch meat, cheese slices, chips, milk and cereal.
Breakfast Pizza
On the second night at the Kalahari, we decided to go out to eat and that we would try Buffalo Phil's Pizza and Grill. Regularly we do more investigate before we go to eat anywhere, but the trip came together so fast that it did not leave much time to look into many restaurants.
When the waitress came to our table, I asked her for a gluten free menu or, if there was no gluten free menu, what was available for Jac to eat? She informed us that she would talk to the chef and give us our options.
We ordered Jac a steak with a baked potato and made sure to tell the waitress to make sure the chef cleans the part of the grill before he cooks the steak and why that was necessary.
The steak and baked potato were great and Jac did not have any problems with cross contamination. We found out on this trip that even though a restaurant does not offer gluten free items or have a gluten free menu, it is still inherent to get a safe meal out.
