5 Day Family Camping Menu Made Easy

Planning your camping menu is, by far, one of the most important tasks when planning your family's camping trip.

Preparing as much as possible in advance is the key to making meals run smooth. This does not mean you have to plan every snack, but by developing an overall menu plan, you will be able to spend more time relaxing and enjoying your trip.

By planning a couple of one pot meals that can be placed on the table in a hurry, such as chili, soups, stews or macaroni and cheese, you will have solutions available if you are running late or someone is looking for an alternate option to the menu you have planned.

You will find our family's 5-Day camping menu plan that works well for us. You may want to tailor it to meet your family's needs.

5-Day Camping Menu Plan

Night 1: Hot Dogs, Potato Salad & Chips. The first night you will be busy setting up camp and unpacking gear, so you will want to make dinner as easy as possible so you have time to kick back and relax.

DAY 1 - Breakfast: Cereal, Toast and Fruit. Lunch: Sandwiches and leftover Potato Salad. Dinner: Grilled Marinated BBQ Chicken, Seasoned Potato Chunks in Tin Foil and Corn. Dessert: S'Mores

DAY 2 - Breakfast: Cereal and Fruit, Gogurts (for kids). Lunch: Sandwiches and Pasta Salad. Dinner: Cheeseburgers & Macaroni Salad. Dessert: Chocolate Chip Cookies

DAY 3 - Breakfast: Pancakes, Bacon and Fruit. Lunch: Grilled Ham & Cheese and leftover salad. Dinner: Marinated Steak Tips, Baked Potatoes & Caesar Salad. Dessert: S'mores

DAY 4 - Breakfast: Eggs, Toast, Bacon, Fruit. Lunch: Wraps and Chips. Dinner: Sausage or Hot Dogs, BBQ Baked Beans & leftover salad. Dessert: Cookies

DAY 5 - Breakfast: French Toast, Sausage and Eggs. Lunch: Burgers and Chips. Dinner: Foil-wrapped Surprise (Whatever's left)

We may change up the menu slightly, but being prepared gives us the freedom to be creative.

If you are camping with a group of people, we will have a couple nights where everyone brings a dish to pass. This gives us a variety of items to choose from. If you are camping near a town or village, we will plan a day where we go into the local town and get pizza and ice cream.

Family camping meals should be fun! The goal is to enjoy time with your family, the outdoors and create valuable memories that will last a lifetime!

Food-related Games to Share With Your Family

With our day to day affairs going helter-skelter, spending time together as a family becomes even more  essential. And when could there be a better time for enjoying by yourselves than the dinner table? You can bet that families that take meals together do help youngsters to be positive and have solid personalities. Another upside to being complete at the dining table is that people get to open up to each other, something that totally helps to brighten up homes. Now, what are the ways to perk up family dinners so as to make everybody actually look forward to them? I listed below some tips which I think would especially help those families with kids aged six and twelve. Watch your little tots engage the grown-ups in these games! And it doesn't stop with just fun laughter, since they also might just pick up a few things in the process.
Where did it come from?
If you have a few condiment bottles on your dining table, then this is perfect. This activity starts with somebody choosing a bottle and encourage everyone to take turns guessing the state from which the bottle originated (the correct answer is of course on the label). Anybody who gets to say the correct state then faces a new question of guessing what is that state's  capital.
Make a list
Someone starts the game by saying out loud the category and naming something which belongs there, like for example, the name of a taste, house pet or a garden plant. The game goes on with each person round the table adding to the list in turn. Anybody who can't add to the list is out and the last person who keeps on adding names until the end is the winner.
Who would you invite to dinner?
History games blend right in to meals, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner. Each family member take turns describing someone from the past that they'd most like bring to dinner. Each person does his or her best to say as much as they know about the person under a time limit. After one cycle, the game pauses so that everybody can comment or share something interesting they know about that important figure.
Learn about a new country: a modified cooking game
Well, its not yet actually a cooking game but a food game. Once in a while, cook a traditional recipe from another country. Have each family member do a little research about that particular country and present what they learned to the rest of the family at dinner while everyone enjoys the delicious food. Through this activity, the kids get to appreciate foreign cultures, even if from the taste buds for now.
Cooking games
This has something to do with food, yet its actually outside a meal! Actual kitchen cooking activities are, of course, the all time solution to those dragging days. But free Internet cooking games through a desktop or laptop and a good web connection can be wake-uppers too. Unfortunately we will need another article if we will talk about kids who are fussy eaters, but it's clear that helping out in cooking is something kids feel magnetized to. So naturally, it was not hard getting web-savvy kids to patronize free cooking games online. In any case, your kids are bound to pick up many things while playing these games, whether its because they copy the cooking steps seen online, or its because they imitate your style at the kitchen. Don't forget that supervised kids get to have the most fun out of surfing. Moreover, you can achieve quality time plus learning in just one go.

Three Quick and Easy Family Breakfast Recipes

Even though I know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I'll admit that it's also one of the hardest to go to a lot of trouble for during the busy weekday. We've never been big breakfast eaters at my house, in fact, cold cereal or toaster waffles are the usual fare on any given Monday through Friday morning around here. But, on the weekends we often like to whip up a big breakfast for the whole family and then actually sit down at the same table and eat it together. Wow, that's a feat in itself anymore!

The same old tired bacon and eggs do get boring after awhile however, so I've found some yummy breakfast recipes that meet my 'quick and easy' criteria. Since I have a picky preschooler who loves eggs but is on a 'no pancake' kick lately, I wanted a couple of really good recipes that will satisfy grown-up as well as kid tastes.

Breakfast Pizza

Quick and Easy Maple Toast and Eggs

12 bacon strips, diced

½ cup maple syrup

¼ cup butter

12 slices white bread (firmer texture is better)

Salt and pepper to taste

Cook bacon in skillet until crisp and then drain on paper towels. In a small saucepan, heat syrup and butter until the butter melts. Trim crusts from bread and flatten slices with a rolling pin. Brush one side with syrup mixture and press each slice into an ungreased muffin cup with syrup side down. Divide bacon among muffin cups. Break one egg into each cup and then sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cover with foil and bake on 400F for 20 minutes. Serves 12.

Quick and Easy Farmers Breakfast

6 bacon strips, diced

2 tbsp diced onion

3 medium potatoes, cooked and cubed

6 eggs, beaten

Salt and pepper to taste

½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Cook bacon in skillet until crisp and drain on paper towels. In the bacon drippings, sauté onion and potatoes until potatoes are browned. Pour eggs into skillet and cook until eggs are set and cooked to desired doneness. Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with cheese and bacon; let stand for 2 minutes or until cheese melts. Serves 4.

Quick and Easy Egg and Biscuit Breakfast

2 tbsp butter

8 eggs, beaten

1 - 5 oz can evaporated milk

1 - 8 oz package American cheese, cubed

1 tbsp prepared mustard

1 cup cubed cooked ham

1 - 10 oz can refrigerator biscuits

Melt butter in skillet. Add eggs and cook until set. In a saucepan, combine milk, cheese and mustard and cook until cheese is melted. Remove from heat and fold in ham and eggs. Pour into a greased 8 inch greased baking dish. Separate biscuits and place on top. Bake at 375F for 20 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown. Serves 4.

Pizza Night For the Family

Want a fun way to bring your family together for dinner? Make one night a week "Pizza Night". Forget about ordering in, making your own pizza is easy and inexpensive. Perfect for a Sunday night when the weekend is winding down, Pizza Night is a dinner activity that your whole family will enjoy. What's more, by making your own pizza, you can create flavor combination's that Domino's never dreamed of.

Even if you owe your entire home pizza baking experience to Chef Boyardee, you can still make great pizza at home with minimal effort and equipment. The only special equipment you need is a pizza cutter and something to bake your pizza on. You can make pizza on a cookie sheet, but you will get better results if you purchase a pizza stone or better yet, go to the home improvement store and buy 6 unglazed terra cotta tiles. Baking your pizza on a hot stone cooks it from the bottom and creates a crispy crust. Even if you are a deep dish pizza fan, a stone will help to cook your pizza evenly and quickly. The key is to let your stone or tiles thoroughly pre-heat. Because you need to cook your pizza at 450-500 degrees, pre-heating could take up to an hour, so be sure to allow enough time.

Breakfast Pizza

To streamline the pizza making process, purchase fresh unbaked pizza dough at the supermarket or go to the bakery counter and purchase some unbaked French bread dough. When you get home, simply roll it out on a floured surface, top and bake. For thin crust pizzas, sprinkle some corn meal on the back of a cookie sheet without raised sides. Assemble your pizza and slide it onto the tiles with a quick jerk. For deep dish pizza, just press the dough into a pan with raised sides and add your toppings. Pizzas only need to bake 7-10 minutes at 450-500 degrees, maybe a few minutes longer for deep dish pies. Your pizza is done when the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.

On to the toppings. A world of pizza exists beyond pepperoni and sausage. Once you have a crust, there is no limit to the combination's you can create. Some suggestions:

*Brush your crust with olive oil and top with blue cheese, pears, walnuts and mozzarella.

*Carmelize some onions and minced garlic in a skillet until soft and golden brown, use with Fontina cheese and olive oil. Browned sausage is nice here, too

*Olive oil, pesto, olives and goat cheese is a savory, tangy combination.

*Spinach and goat cheese with olive oil.

*Simply brush your crust with olive oil and top with Parmesan-Reggiano cheese, garlic and minced herbs - try rosemary, marjoram, basil, oregano and chives.

*Pizza Margarita, the Italian classic. Sliced tomatoes, mozzarella and torn basil leaves.

*Shrimp with Swiss cheese and a sprinkle of smoked paprika.

*Four or five cheeses - Camembert, gorgonzola, provolone and mozzarella.

*Smoked ham and apples with Swiss cheese

*Create a breakfast or dessert pizza by topping your pizza with jam and fresh fruit.

Making pizza at home is a great way to bring your family together. Let everyone make their own and you will be amazed at the different combinations they come up with. Bon appetitte!
